Bonjour, my name is Madame McMahon. I lead MFL (French) at St. Thomas’.
My father was born in Avellino, Italy. Growing up with an Italian parent has given me a keen interest in learning languages. During my teacher training at University, I completed a teaching placement in Cergy in Paris, France.
I currently oversee the teaching and learning of French across Key Stage 2. I ensure that children improve their French language skills and increase their cultural awareness whilst our dedicated teachers foster a love of languages in our children.
At St. Thomas’ Primary school, celebrating different languages and cultures is encouraged through all we do. We understand that learning another language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures.
A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Our MFL curriculum is designed to progressively develop pupils’ spoken and written skills through a language rich environment where all children have the opportunity to learn, enjoy and achieve.
Our children develop their appreciation of a range of cultures through vibrant and engaging lessons and activities, international visits and through linking the celebration of language and culture throughout school life.
We aim to develop confident, enthusiastic speakers. We intend to set the foundations for language learning – preparing children today for their new tomorrow where they are successful, global citizens.
